Apprenticeship Career Connections (ACC)

With over 140 trades to choose from it is often difficult to get the information required to access training in particular trade. The ACC is an event designed to connect all interested Peel & Halton residents to all the pieces of the apprenticeship puzzle. Read more at www.apprenticeshipcareerconnections.ca

An Emerging Green Economy: Working Green

In partnership with the Toronto Training Board and the York South Simcoe Training and Adjustment Board we will explore the careers, training and employment opportunities related to the green economy; this will include developing an inventory of green positions/careers current and evolving.

Understanding Immigration: A Study of Practices in Leading Industrialized Countries

Develop a research to understand how leading industrialized countries address the accreditation assessment for new immigrants. Special attention will be paid to the Australian model.

Labour Market Information Collection

Understand what current labour market information (LMI) is available in Peel and Halton. Standardize data collection. Understand what information the community needs and assess ways to provide current LMI to interested stakeholders on an ongoing basis.

Apprenticeship Graduation 2009

The Peel Halton Workforce Development Group co-sponsored the 10th Apprenticeship Graduation Ceremony in partnership with the Ministry of Training Colleges and Universities, Mississauga Apprenticeship Branch and was held at the Mississauga Convention Centre on the 18th of June, 2009. The ceremony was presided over by Hon. John Milloy, Minister of Training Colleges & Universities and honored over 820 apprentices who had completed their training. For the first time ever, this year, the event also hosted the Minister's Central District Employer Awards.

A Newcomer's Guide to Services in Peel and Halton

The popular PHWDG publication, "A Newcomer's Guide to Services in Peel & Halton", has been updated and revised. Over 100,000 copies of the new guide have been printed and are being distributed to all Peel and Halton stakeholders that serve new immigrants.The new guide was launched on Friday December 4th at the Mississauga Convention Centre at 9:00 am. The guide is targeted for use of newcomers that make Peel and Halton their home. Special guest, Wendy Cukier, Associate Dean, Ted Rogers School of Management and Founder Diversity Institute, Ryerson University spoke at the launch about, "The business case for diversity: fuelling individual success and Canada's competitiveness".  The new guide is available in four languages: English, French, Punjabi & Chinese.

Professional Development (PD) Training Series

Peel Halton Workforce Development Group received funding from the Ontario Trillium Foundation to offer PD to front line staff of new immigrant serving agencies. Three PD days will be offered over the next three months.

The first PD day will be held on the 24th of September at the Delta Meadowvale Resort & Conference Centre in Mississauga. Participants will enjoy a rich agenda over a one day conference that will include two workshops - "Stress Management" and "How to Motivate Your Clients"; keynote speakers at this conference will present on "Diversity" and "The Green Jobs of the Future".
